Notre déclaration sur la SheBelieves Cup dans le contexte politique actuel aux États-Unis Dans quelques semaines, la CANXNT affrontera l’Argentine, la Colombie et les États-Unis lors de la SheBelieves Cup. Même si on a très hâte de revoir l’équipe en action - et qu’on vous prépare quelque chose de particulièrement le fun pour nos événements de visionnement (!!) - on ne peut pas passer sous silence les actions de l’ICE au sud de la frontière, la complicité du Canada dans celles-ci, ainsi que ce qui se passe ici même, au nord de la frontière. De plus, même si les matchs ont lieu dans des villes américaines facilement accessibles pour nous, la militarisation accrue des forces policières américaines ainsi que des services d’immigration, des douanes et de la patrouille frontalière fait en sorte que même des partisan·e·s de la CANXNT qui, par le passé, se seraient senti·e·s en sécurité pour voyager afin d’encourager l’équipe choisissent malheureusement de rester à la maison. En conséquence, notre contenu entourant la SheBelieves Cup reflétera cette réalité.

Pourquoi prendre la parole? Le sport est intrinsèquement politique - surtout le sport féminin - et, en tant que groupe de partisan·e·s fondé sur l’inclusion et l’utilisation de notre plateforme pour la défendre, on ne trouvait pas juste de faire comme si ce tournoi se déroulait en vase clos. Le sport a aussi été au cœur autant de mouvements fascistes que des mouvements de résistance qui s’y opposent. Les événements actuels ne font pas exception à cet égard, et les mouvements visant à abolir ou à expulser l’ICE que l’on observe aux États-Unis - ainsi qu’à Milan en marge des Jeux olympiques - s’inscrivent dans cette longue tradition.

Le Canada est complice. L’ICE a des bureaux dans cinq villes canadiennes : Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montréal et Ottawa. Son fournisseur de véhicules blindés est également une entreprise canadienne, Roshel, basée en Ontario. Plusieurs autres entreprises canadiennes - dont GardaWorld, Hootsuite, JSI Telecom, Jim Pattison Development et Thomson Reuters - détiennent aussi des contrats avec le Department of Homeland Security des États-Unis. Et ce n’est pas seulement un enjeu « au sud de la frontière ». Le Canada déporte près de 400 personnes par semaine. L’Agence des services frontaliers du Canada prévoit embaucher 1 000 agent·e·s supplémentaires. Le projet de loi C-12 prévoit l’annulation massive de statuts et la déportation de réfugié·e·s sans audience, et le projet de loi C-2 contient une expansion flagrante des pouvoirs de surveillance.

En bref ? Continuons d’encourager notre équipe - mais pas au détriment de la sécurité, des communautés ou de nos valeurs. Nous allons encourager nos joueuses, mais nous ne traiterons pas ce tournoi comme si c’était « comme d’habitude ». Nous encourageons les partisan·e·s à rester informé·e·s, à prendre la parole et à s’éduquer sur les politiques d’application des lois en matière d’immigration aux États-Unis ainsi que sur le rôle du Canada et ses propres politiques dans ce domaine.

Dans quelques semaines, la CANXNT affrontera l’Argentine, la Colombie et les États-Unis lors de la SheBelieves Cup. Même si on a très hâte de revoir l’équipe en action - et qu’on vous prépare quelque chose de particulièrement le fun pour nos événements de visionnement - on ne peut pas...

Our Statement on the She Believes Cup In the Current U.S. Political Climate In a few weeks, the CANXNT will take on Argentina, Colombia and the USA in the She Believes Cup, and while we can’t wait to see the team back in action, and we have something extra fun planned for our watch parties (!!), we would be remiss if we didn’t address ICE’s actions South of the border, Canada’s complicity in it and what is happening North of the border. Additionally, while the games are taking place in American cities within easy travel distance to us, due to the increased militarization of the US police, and immigration, customs and border patrol, even CANXNT supporters who in the past might have felt safe travelling to cheer on our team are unfortunately staying home. Consequently, our She Believes Cup content will reflect this reality.

Why Weigh In? Sports are inherently political—especially women’s sports—and as a Supporters’ Group founded on inclusion and using our platform to advocate for it, we didn’t feel it would be right to pretend this tournament is happening in a vacuum. Sports have been at the center of both fascist movements and the resistance movements against them. Current events are no different in this sense, and the movements to abolish or expel ICE that we observe in the US—as well as in Milan on the margins of the Olympics — can be situated within this long tradition

Canada Is Complicit. ICE has offices in 5 Canadian cities: Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Ottawa. Its armoured vehicle supplier is also a Canadian company, Ontario-based Roshel, with several other Canadian firms, including GardaWorld, Hootsuite, JSI Telecom, Jim Pattison Development, and Thomson Reuters, that have contracts with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. It's not just a “South-of-the-Border” or "US-only" issue, either. Canada is deporting nearly 400 people a week, the Canada Border Services Agency will hire 1,000 more officers, Bill C-12 foresees mass status-cancellation and deportation of refugees without a hearing, and Bill C-2 contains an egregious expansion of surveillance powers.

The Bottom Line? Continue supporting our team, but not at the expense of safety, communities, or values. We will be cheering on our players, but we won’t be treating this tournament as business as usual. We encourage supporters to stay informed, speak up, and educate themselves on both U.S. immigration enforcement, Canada’s role in it and its own policies on this subject.

In a few weeks, the CANXNT will take on Argentina, Colombia and the USA in the She Believes Cup, and while we can’t wait to see the team back in action (and we have something extra fun planned for our watch parties), we would be remiss if we didn’t address ICE’s actions South of the border...

Our thoughts are with the community of Tumbler Ridge, BC and with all the victims, their families and friends whose lives have been profoundly affected by the tragic events today.

A screenshot of text that reads as follows: Asheville, N.C. — January 14, 2026 — On Monday, the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association (NWSLPA) filed a formal grievance challenging the League’s unilateral implementation of the “High Impact Player (HIP) Rule,” a player compensation rule implemented without bargaining and in violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and federal labor law. On December 23, 2025, the NWSL implemented the HIP Rule without bargaining with the Players Association, despite repeated objections and a clear demand to negotiate. The rule creates a new compensation mechanism that allows teams to spend up to $1 million above the salary cap on select Players who meet League-defined criteria, while simultaneously reducing those Players’ salary cap charges. Consistent with its commitment to bargain in good faith, the NWSLPA has proposed instead that the NWSL simply increase the salary cap by $1 million. Player compensation is a mandatory subject of bargaining. The CBA comprehensively governs salaries, the team salary cap, and free agency. The Players Association maintains that the League has no authority to unilaterally create a new pay structure that bypasses negotiated rules.

But lasting progress requires a clear, shared process with Players involved. That’s how you build a market that is stable and fair,” said Tori Huster, Deputy Executive Director of the NWSLPA. The NWSLPA is seeking immediate rescission of the HIP Rule, an order requiring the League to bargain in good faith over any proposed Player compensation rules prior to implementation, and to make-whole relief for any Players impacted by the League’s unilateral actions. The grievance was filed pursuant to Article 18 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
