He has a point, it's a bit of a stretch to say they've been slightly less incompetent

27.02.2026 11:15 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I feel like I can say this as this game predates my time at Double Fine by like a decade but as much as I'm enjoying the battle parts of Mewgenics it's making me want to replay MASSIVE CHALICE

23.02.2026 18:16 — 👍 6 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0Every time my mind goes back to the Emperor's New Clothes and the media's completely atrophied ability to call out this utter banality for what it is. A child could rip apart this logic. I feel like it's a journalistic *responsibility* to point out that this statement makes *no sense*
23.02.2026 17:24 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I know a lot of people have clowned on this but. Like. Man. He does realise that if you replace the person's 20 years of training with AI then you do actually still have to keep feeding the person. Right? He does get that... right? Please tell me he gets that.

20.02.2026 10:39 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0...So when I see big companies rolling over and exposing their whole belly for genAI training data I think: why was it a huge problem we forgot to pay for a clip for a few months, then tried to in good faith, but it's fine for these companies to use, well... everything they've ever done forever?
19.02.2026 13:33 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0...Of course they're entitled to be upset we made a mistake. Still, it seemed like a rather extreme response to someone who was just trying to pay for re-usage of a clip. This was an early taste of big rights holders throwing their weight around when someone is perceived as misusing their stuff...

19.02.2026 13:26 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0...Usually this was fine, but there was an unwritten rule that when dealing with US film studios, be very careful. And when I was new to the job, I guess I was not careful enough in how I phrased something, and they decided to take extreme umbrage that we were coming to them so late...
19.02.2026 13:25 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0...In those cases we'd just make a good faith effort to clear the rights as soon as we could, the idea being that as long as we're trying to do the right thing and everyone's getting paid it shouldn't be a huge deal, we made a mistake but they get paid...
19.02.2026 13:23 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0...We'd make sure the rights covered France, hadn't expired, and was valid for the type of use (Free TV/Pay TV, etc). And if they needed re-clearing we'd estimate the cost of that and they'd edit it out or pay for it. Sometimes, mistakes happen, something that should've been cleared hadn't, say...
19.02.2026 13:19 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0A small story which explains my bafflement with the current state of affairs: One of my first jobs was at the BBC, clearing rights for usage when stuff got sold around. So, for example, if some TV show with a clip from a film got sold in France, we'd check the rights for that clip...

I swear every single time I'm stuck staring at this 100% complete screen upwards of 10 minutes. What's the point of telling me how complete the process is if it tells me its at 100% for 20 times longer than it was 0-99?

16.02.2026 20:55 — 👍 5 🔁 2 💬 0 📌 0... It's certainly *possible* for your process to be typing words at a computer and listening to what falls out, but I'm very sceptical about how much learning and development can result from that process.
16.02.2026 20:17 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0...Thinking about how lines interact to produce harmonic effects while also being individually interesting is integral to how I think about part writing. I was made to think that way by the tools I started out using. I believe development as an artist is very much shaped by your tools and process...
16.02.2026 20:10 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0... the skills I learned using Protracker are ones that I have internalised and continue to use. For example, with trackers you have multiple tracks, each usually playing one note, and so from a very early point I understood harmony in terms of layered melody, which informs my writing to this day...
16.02.2026 20:07 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0So making music on a computer is super cheap, as there are more free tools than ever, but free tools have existed for decades. I started on ProTracker on the Amiga, which I taught myself. Yes, you need a computer or a phone of some kind but there are many ways to get started. But here's the thing...
