At any rate, I need to echo what I'm seeing a lot of other people say. This may be my choice for Super Ed's basis (and apparently a lot of you did the same), but it is NOT *the* basis. You are free to interpret him however you like.

I need to emphasize that I simply chose this basis for the story I’m writing (which should be ready very soon), simply because it gave me material to work with for my take on Super Ed. I doubt if this was David’s vision for the character—or if he even had a basis in mind.

I threw out *everything* from the draft except a few barebones things and I think I can make Super Ed work. First draft in progress now

It’s all about presentation. The very basic, barebones concept of a diesel getting electrocuted is workable IMO. But the way it’s done in the draft is hot garbage, and virtually everything about it besides that singular idea has to be tossed.

Story prompt. The trucks are acting up as usual; when engine X has to arrange them, they do their standard “we want engine Y” bit. As it turns out, engine Y *is* available and takes over, leading to a civil war between the trucks who were making excuses and those who *actually* wanted engine Y

Also appreciate that the ground collapsed pretty much IMMEDIATELY beyond the board in the pilot—in the final episode he’s able to travel a fair bit before falling

This setup makes so much sense from a storytelling perspective. There’s two boards in the pilot; perhaps the intent was to give Thomas an additional bit of motive… “why is it that I can pass the first board but not the second one?”

Had a dream involving TUGS last night…found a promo tape in a library where they had Sunshine pitching the series to kids, sort of like a fake interview sort of thing

-and were then rotoscoped into hand-drawn backgrounds and environments, allowing the characters to blink, have moving mouths, and change expression onscreen. It…was definitely not something I imagine going over well IRL and probably would’ve been every bit as hellish to produce as the real thing.

Had a really trippy dream last night which involved someone discovering a behind the scenes reel for TUGS. It would’ve been a continuation/soft reboot that was worked on in the mid-late 90s before getting scrapped. It was animated, BUT all the boats/cranes/etc were filmed on a chroma key background-
