Ah yes. It’s a coincidence that there’s an exhibition - much larger, inevitably - drawn from CJH’s archive, which he donated to DCU. I will long remember the convivial lunches we had in Kinsealy during the last years of his life. Looking forward to Vincent Browne’s biography of him next year.

If you're in the vicinity of @dculibrary.bsky.social, please pop in to see an exhibition selected from the archive material I've donated. It relates to my first book, The Destruction of Dublin (1985), and the Dublin Crisis Conference I helped to organise in February 1986. A blast from the past!

A public lido, with a year-round heated swimming pool, would be by far the best outcome for this long-dry dock basin -- as proposed by the George's Dock Lido campaign. But @dublincitycouncil.bsky.social officials insist that any such facility must be developed and operated by the private sector...

Ministers to explore reversing ban on Maccabi Tel Aviv fans attending UK match after PM’s criticism – politics live
Fans of the Israeli football team will not be allowed to attend the Europa League match at Aston Villa on 6 November owing to safety concerns
When Sir Keir Starmer said he supported Zionism without qualification he wasn't joking. He's now advocating for Zionist football hooligans.
Macabbi Tel Aviv fans are notoriously violent thugs, yet Starmer wants to let them loose on the people of Birmingham.

Visiting Notre-Dame de Paris for the first time since it was restored so beautifully, the excerpt below from its vivid 14th century carved timber choir enclosure caught my eye. It shows King Herod and the apocryphal massacre of the innocents, and I thought of the mass murder of children in Gaza ...

A memorial on a black background with a photo of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, who was targeted in a political assassination. The text reads, "In Memory of Melissa Hortman, Former Minnesota House Speaker, 1970-2025. Taken far too soon in a targeted attack. A voice for justice, clean energy, and equality. We honor her legacy, leadership, and courage. #RestInPower."
Mourning, today, for a victim of a political assassination.

If Farage wins the next election, it will be down to one person. His name is Keir Starmer.
This thread explains why.
1. Destroying faith in democracy. The UK decisively voted out the Tories, only for Starmer to give us a Continuity Tory government, shamefully beholden to economic power.

The 100 lowest-paying US corporations spent $644B on stock buybacks from 2019 to 2024.
Buybacks artificially boost share prices and inflate CEO pay.
The typical worker at these companies earned $35k last year.
Meanwhile, the average CEO was paid $17.2M

This happened, quite clearly, because of the concerted action of a huge range of people from all over the country. But it was Gary Gannon who took the risk of challenging the Central Bank's assertions that they had no legal basis not to approve these bonds.
