Then later, in one phrase after another, each noun takes one adjective, and although each adjective is defensible in itself, hte effect is monotonously pretty: tall slice, upward projection, shadowless gloom, early morning. The mixture tastes too sweet. Rearranging clauses, putting an adjective after a noun instead of before it, putting two adjectives with one noun and none with the next - any number of minor reworkings could improve the passage.
