Zohran Mamdani doesn’t make me, an American Jew, feel unsafe.

Having the Coast Guard, which falls under the Department of Homeland Security, decide that a swastika isn’t really a symbol of hate? That makes me, an American Jew, feel pretty damn unsafe.

This is funny because after the "re-opening" of Friedrichstraße for cars not people, it is the eighth most dangerous road in all of Germany.
Because of the car brains in the current government. It is and remains a farce.

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

“Helsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas & city center in 2021.”

It's changing institutions and overcoming the growth imperative of capitalism (@jasonhickel.bsky.social, Spash) as well as the imperial mode of living and producing (Brand &Wissen) that make it so hard. We need to build counter power and a solidaristic mode of living instead!

Housing secretary tells Labour MPs to vote down planning bill amendment Amendment restricts protection for animals to allow faster house building

Watching Labour MPs take a wrecking ball to nature makes me so angry & so sad. Their action tonight voting down amendments to the #PlanningBill intended to protect wildlife & habitats from destruction is so reckless & so counterproductive. People didn’t vote Labour for this 👇

About 1m Ford diesel cars sold in UK with defective emissions controls, court told Ford denies having created ‘defeat devices’ in legal action on behalf of 1.6 million owners against five carmakers

About 1m Ford diesel cars sold in UK with defective emissions controls. Company knew. Many were never formally recalled or fixed.

Companies chase profits by lying, cheating. Yet neoliberals push for deregulation, less consumer rights.

Hold execs personally liable.

‘The car belongs in Berlin’: city backpedaling on bike-friendly policies, critics say Car-critical measures have been slashed since the conservative CDU came into power in 2023, triggering protests and dividing communities

Sogar in Großbritannien erzählt man sich kopfschüttelnd von der Auto-zentrischen Politik der Berliner CDU und ihrer Bereitschaft, für immer mehr Blech in Berlin die Bevölkerung zu spalten und zu radikalisieren:

Dark forces are preventing us fighting the climate crisis – by taking knowledge hostage | George Monbiot The fundamental problem is this: that most of the means of communication are owned or influenced by the very rich, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Climate breakdown is driven by a storm of lies. This lying is systemic, funded and coordinated, and operates across almost all media, old and new.
This week's column argues that we cannot fight the climate crisis without also fighting the epistemic crisis.

You know what Weber will do now though. Act contrite, row back a bit, say he cannot control how the populist right will vote. Do it politely.

People in Brussels and Berlin will forgive him, attributing it to being "pro business".

And then he'll do it all over again.

(Weber is a nasty little shit)

Rachel Reeves to cut tax benefits for workers using salary sacrifice schemes to buy bikes Chancellor expected to introduce new limit on how much can be spent on a bicycle through cycle to work scheme

Axing the cycle-to-work scheme might seem like low-hanging fruit for a cash-strapped Treasury, but it would be a big mistake. Particularly with expensive kid-carrying cargo e-bikes, it's one of the most effective modal shift levers out there.

“Taxpayers shouldn’t be footing the bill for luxury leisure.” Says govt source.

Will that apply to the £4bn a year in fuel duty freeze costs, which go to drivers on the highest incomes the most?

Dammbruch im EU-Parlament: Erstmals beschließt eine Mehrheit aus Konservativen und Rechtsextremen - also auch CDU, CSU und AfD eine Gesetzesposition. Damit werden u.a. Kinderarbeit und Menschenrechtsverletzungen in Lieferketten gefördert. Vollkommen verheerend. Schämt euch, CDU und CSU.
