Meanwhile, many of us have to think about how we wind down our lab operations in the next month, while proposals languish in purgatory. For what?

Meanwhile, polar scientists are running out of money, have proposals sitting in NSF purgatory for over a year and crickets… I’m about ready to throw in the towel on my science career.

Very. I get them all the time. Sometimes you get paid too! NSF also requests reviews from international scientists, or they used to in the before times

The Epstein files document what many women researchers have long experienced but rarely seen laid bare so starkly: exclusion operating behind closed doors, shaping who gets funded, invited, mentored, and taken seriously. How many of these networks, norms, and gatekeepers remain in place?

The boys’ club: How Epstein’s influence shaped the exclusion of women in STEM In one email, an AI researcher suggested it’s β€œhard to be brilliant if you are worrying if you look fat or why another woman hates you.”

My super amazing students (minus two who had a meeting) and lab tech. I’m so grateful to all of them for all of their hard work and dedication to science. Also, they are so much fun!

Techno-optimism around AI reveals the contempt these CEOs and tech bros have for the work most of us do. They think writing, thinking and art can all be automated by AI because *they* can’t do any of those things.

It was transforming the biggest NFL stage in the world into a sugar cane plantation that did it for me.

Like, the multiple layers of turning an American icon into a plantation and highlighting the history of exploitation of Black and Brown bodies by the NFL and American colonialism simultaneously?

Hey, guess who’s lived experience isn’t 40 years out of date? Mine. The one you called petty. The one who said the number of academic men orbiting Epstein was not surprising- I was not implicating hundreds of men. Please don’t put words in my mouth.

I filed our title IX because a student was experiencing the same behavior I was experiencing. If they hadn’t been, I probably would have just tried to continue to manage the behavior, as I had been for 25 years … since I was an undergraduate of this same faculty member…
