As someone with a lot of libertarian sympathies, I totally second this.

We should all have a good healthy dose of libertarian sentiments, but most people who are loud and like to capitalize that leading "L" in libertarian are little more than techno-fascists with some writing skills.

Indeed. I will say though, we are entirely capable of kicking the bear back to its cave and toppling the entrance behind him, without us having to break any rules. And we shouldn't break rules. These states amending their specific arms treaties is not to be equated to a breach of IHL though.

I think there is at least a valuable discussion worth having. Critically though, none of this is about picking and choosing when to follow IHL; IHL is always binding! But specific arms regulations not captured under customary IHL may be opted out of.
