When my wife was in the flower business, I was sometimes responsible for local deliveries. I quickly learned that a flower arrangement can get you deep inside some surprisingly insecure "secure" places.

Chat GPT helped me write this. Based entirely on its advice, I have also purchased a new vehicle -- a cyber truck that my wife definitely likes.

I rigged up our cargo bike with cheap battery powered Christmas lights one year. Worked well with zipties. Kids loved it. The more expensive outdoor ones are waterproof.

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrowβs budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me πWeβre just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. Itβs been a roaring success. For every β¬1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got β¬1.46 back. Canβt argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."
Damn. This is amazing. Β£325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Motorcycle Training & Licensing Course β Safety Services Nova Scotia
Motorcycle Rider Licensing Course
Sold mine after losing interest when our first child arrived. Just felt like a matter of time before something really bad happened either through my own error or someone else's. Highly recommend people take the motorcycle training and licensing course: www.safetyservicesns.ca/motorcycle-l...

Update on the closure of the Cobequid Community Health Centre per Halifax Fire:
A furnace problem led to the emission of smoke and fuel and now there's a fuel odour issue onsite. Blood collection patients can reschedule or go to the Bayers Rd clinic. Diagnostic imaging patients will be contacted.

"... if two days have passed since the last rain, the risk for a deadly accident goes up by 3.7 percent. This number gets bigger the longer an area has gone without rain, so just imagine how dangerous the first rain after a bone dry summer must be."

The risk of road grease in the immediate aftermath of the first rain after a dry spell is also a real phenomenon. (Learned about it in my motorcycle licence course and have definitely experienced it while cycling.) Could be a factor in some of these crashes.

I will never part with my olive Levi's Commuter-series trucker jacket and its useful rear pockets. Sadly the Commuter line which prioritized utility, durability, ventilation and (to a lesser extent) visibility was discontinued years ago.

Full disclosure traffic was somewhat intense going up and down the climb especially in the wind. Depending on your tolerance for that sort of thing, you might want to wait for the trailway to open.

One other thing I would add is that drivers on that road are going to have to get used to cyclists being out that way and slow down. I was passed by a lot of speeders in big work vehicles.

Ed and Lyndon have more than 90 seconds on me for the KoM, so Iβm almost obligated to go back for redemption. Jokes aside, itβs an A+ climb. Fencework looks like slow going and long distance to cover, Iβd be surprised if it opens soon but ya never know.

On the advice of @ttomlin.bsky.social I hit up the new Aerotech Connector after work. Terry, you failed to mention itβs a 10 minute climb with 5-8% gradients π
The multi use path is closed for fencing work. Main road has tiny shoulders and itβs very crosswindy (with a nice view going back down)

Iβve mentioned it before but itβs happened again: a very large percentage of our child-related travel is medium-distance trips that donβt line up well with transit (so itβs barely faster than walking) but biking is literally as fast as driving.

Same here (Halifax, NS) -- My oldest (12) wants to bike himself to school and we almost have a route that's safe enough, but not quite yet. Our cargo bike has cut out a lot of our local driving in the last few years especially for grocery runs, child pickup etc.
