They killed schoolchildren, Chuck. Your “imploring” isn’t going to solve shit. Resign and let someone willing to fight against fascism take over.

Unless they're Kodachrome, slides shouldn't exist. Thinking happens in full sentences, not fragmented bullets and clipart.

This is just north of me. It is and should be national news. And these cops should be arrested.

Love the care and attention that @monkchips.com and the team put into the design of this conference. The impact of intentional design goes so much deeper and so much farther than the visuals that get seen.

In a recent post, I wrote about how AI allows us to carry sparks of ideas a little further. @bencodezen.io's post nails the how-to of using AI to capture those sparks before they vanish.

This piece by @toddbishop.bsky.social on @duckbillhq.bsky.social's new product and funding hits right at the heart of the ongoing/eternal cloud cost issue:

"...the real problem is that nobody can predict what the costs will be next month."

On AI and writing (w/respect to Zinsser):

“There is nothing to writing. All you have to do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” - Hemingway

“Writers are desperate people and when they stop being desperate they stop being writers.” - Bukowski

“If it sounds like writing, I rewrite it.” - Leonard

There are many ways of designing an algorithm that either generates music or else helps a human being to do that, making some of the decisions during the person’s creative process to leave them free to focus on other aspects. By taking over some of the decision-making, they can free a creative mind to focus on different perspectives. People just starting to learn music too often bog down and give up at the level of simply playing the notes, just figuring out where to put their fingers. We can make musical instruments now that let people use a bit of automation on those low levels to let them express themselves on a larger level, for example, to make gestures in texture-space rather than thinking ahead just one note at a time.

A fascinating interview with electronic music pioneer Laurie Spiegel on the difference between algorithms and AI. Worth your time.

The Future Belongs to Clear Thinkers, Not Fast Writers Clear writing shows clear thinking. AI hasn’t changed that. But the idea that a prompt can turn anyone into a seasoned writer is a load of crap.

Feels like a good morning to re-up this post. Looking back, I focused on AI being the domain of the olds versus rookies (and that argument still holds). In hindsight, though, it's just as accurate to frame the comparison as the domain of writers versus non-writers.

A dark double shot of espresso with a nice tan crema in a clear glass sits on a brown desk. A keyboard is in the foreground. A closed laptop lid with a sticker of Corey Quinn is in the background.

The fact that Bad Bunny's halftime show made white bigots angry and feel excluded is A GOOD THING. It's one of the best things about it. It's not a problem to solve. It's a solution to pursue. Bigots *should* feel excluded. We should find *more* ways to celebrate the reality of USian diversity.

All this talk about ads in AI when the bulk of AI interaction will be machine-to-machine, not human-to-machine.

Also, the delay in response is a great example of why inference is (must) move to the edge.

Also also: great ad!
