Insektors (early 3D kids animation) got this; it was a french show that got dubbed separately for the US and UK.

I rewatched it while at uni; the UK version is _so much_ better than the US version, which kills all the jokes

I've also never run a game where at least one player hasn't wanted to catch one of the mons they met - despite knowing that it's a one shot and they'll never see that character again!

Also the first ones you make will be pants. My green ones were great, but fell apart; the second set I made were solid, but really ****ing hurt to wear. The last worked nicely.

So I can't give a proper tutorial that I've used, but I can say that the best material for the brass rims is "escutcheons" for locks; you can just unscrew the lock part and stick a bit of perspex inside. Then the rest is leatherwork.
