If Democratic officials had done this, the House would be voting today to establish a select committee.

The relevant committees of jurisdiction in the House and Senate have surely already announced a joint investigation, right?

Also worth noting: when Trump's appointee to run USAGM began to hollow out the agency in 2020, there was strong bipartisan resistance in Congress. A law passed that strengthened USAGM's journalistic independence.

Now, Trump's GOP allies in Congress are silent.

Shuttering USAGM is a reckless giveaway to authoritarians around the world.

I oversaw the agency for years. It has its share of problems, but many places where USAGM entities broadcast, they're the only source of decent news and information.
