Kingdom Heart 1 and 2 are when visuals for brightly colored games peaked.
Colors are bold, textures are detailed, volumetric fog barely exists if at all, and lighting isnt harsh/sterile/"realistic".
Modern games could learn so much from these two games from a visual design standpoint.

I think direct comparisons to games like Mario Odyssey is a big disservice to DK. This game was trying to innovate with terraforming platforming and that came with some concessions.
Glad I played it. still think setting was weird tho.
