The Cosmic Drama Unfolds: Science and the Biblical Story: The Canadian Scientific & Christian Affiliation, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023, is home to a wide variety of perspectives on science and Christian faith as we network with members and friends of diverse backgrounds who work, study, and engage in a range of contexts relating to science. I have been inspired and challenged by the Reformed tradition, integrating and adapting it with my evolving perspectives, informed by scientific advances, rooted in theological and philosophical foundations, and nuanced through connections within and beyond the CSCA. In this talk, I will discuss ways the Biblical story, seen through the lens of β€œcreation-fall-redemption,” is valuable for reflecting on the character, discoveries, and purposes of the natural sciences.

Modern science forces questions that can lead to the deconstruction & reconstruction of faith. Peter shares data based on interviews with 28 Cdn Christians focussing on certain teachings about Genesis and how people handle the dissonance they feel as students of the natural sciences.

Editorial summary of the article: In β€œMennonites Responding to Climate Change: Engagement and Hope from Around the World,” authors Douglas Graber Neufeld, Joanne M. Moyer, and Heather Prior address how Anabaptist communities around the world are addressing creation care. This unusual global study is based on data collected by a survey distributed around the world and from focus groups that met both in person and online in 2022 and 2023. The results illustrate some expected regional differences (e.g. between Africa/Latin America and Europe/North America), but also identified levels and types of church engagement with creation care among Anabaptist churches worldwide, including levels of political participation. As one might expect, there were various views concerning the latter. A general finding was that β€œAnabaptists generally reflect the attitudes of the society around them,” but this finding is further sharpened with relation to Anabaptist churches worldwide. The nuanced conclusions, too numerous to be noted here, are helpfully synthesized in eight tables and summaries at the end of the article."
