anyway thanks for the question. oleum is nowhere near as bleak and scary as the pale, its a funni and quirki substance that makes you a playable character in a gacha game

my list of inspirations is not really missing anything and is correct to what i did to make Emptiness Effigied, which is to say i spent a summer steeped in depression, reading history, listening to west african jazz, and gawking at some of the most insanely racist mass market fiction ive ever seen

if you go back and read my first work, The Solstice War, I think EE makes a lot of sense as just a better-built, less embarrassing version of that form of fantasy worldbuilding. I love DE (and Sacred and Terrible Air) and I could never aspire to replicate that I just don't think like that lmfao

what i mean by that is that it arouses such passion that you will just be living in its shadow, which is ironically the struggle of all its successor projects. the thing I'm doing with EE is a furthering of things I've been doing with my fiction for a decade which is building from first principles.

It's one of my favorite games but I don't really draw attention to it for two reasons: first because the rights-holders fucked over the core creative people behind it. second because I think people who are fans of it are generally fans to such a degree that it is distorting to mention it at all.
