An interesting historical snapshot, but definitely light on the rom. The dialogue is great though. Must have been fun to write.

This is a 'Red Scare' movie - basically themes around a fear of Communism. She's talking to the killer in prison & the framing is that he fell in with a bad crowd i.e. Communists who temporarily radicalised him with ideas of 'production for use', which resulted in him getting a gun.

Interesting scene... they're journalists & discussing a news story. A man lost his job, went crazy & shot a cop. The man is sentenced to hang & they feel it's harsh, saying it's 'because it was a coloured policeman' the 'coloured vote counts in this town' bc the mayor wants re-election.

Today's matinee is... His Girl Friday (1940). A classic screwball comedy, with the lovely Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell, who I don't really know. It's a Howard Hawks' picture too.
I love a hot guy who is good at comedy and that is Mr Grant. He's like the OG Jon Hamm.
