We had heavy rain in this part of Kirikiriroa-Hamilton, even torrential rain for a little while, and a few strong wind gusts, but nothing else (havenโ€™t heard any reports of anything bad in the rest of the city, not like the โ€œmini tornadoโ€ in the previous storm).

A recent study found that for every $1 invested in the National Weather Service, it produces $73 in value to Americans.

Not only is the NWS a life-saving government resource, it's actually quite efficient.

Trump is forcing Americans who are seeking their earned benefits to sign up for Elon Musk's app.

Pure corruption.

The most corrupt administration in American history wants you to look the other way from this.

We can't. We need answers.

If the Marshals Go Rogue, Courts Have Other Ways to Enforce their Orders Opinion | Even a rogue marshalโ€™s service is not an insurmountable obstacle to courts enforcing the rule of law.

A highly relevant legal analysis about how courts can enforce contempt orders without relying on the executive branch.

Facebookโ€™s secrets, by the insider Zuckerberg tried to silence Careless People author and former Meta director Sarah Wynn-Williams reveals what it was like โ€˜babysittingโ€™ her boss

One thing Trump didn't talk about last night: his plans to abandon American womenโ€™s right to abortion care in medical emergencies.

I wonder why he wouldn't want anyone to know that.

In Oversight today, my colleagues stuck to their usual script: blaming immigrants for all crime & claiming Dem mayors are too soft. Well, I was curious to know if theyโ€™ve ever had an immigrant with a criminal record that they could recall. Tune in!

Etymology of the day: โ€˜bookโ€™ comes from an ancient root shared by โ€˜beechโ€™, a wood that people used for engraving inscriptions. โ€˜Paperโ€™ comes from โ€˜papyrusโ€™, and โ€˜volumeโ€™ is from the Latin for a โ€˜rollโ€™ of parchment.

Happy World Book Day.

Donald Trump promised he wouldn't cut Medicaid.

This week, his friends in DC voted for a bill that would leave 3.4 million Illinoisans, including 1.4 million children, in the dust.

Another middle finger to working families and the most vulnerable in our state.

So increasing the minimum wage to a livable wage is โ€œsocialismโ€?

But Amazon union busting, keeping wages low, and forcing workers onto public assistance while its founder increases his net worth by $7.9M an hour is the "free market"?

Perhaps this could be a WaPo opinion piece.

โ€œIf our Christianity causes kids to go hungry, the sick to go without healthcare, the stranger to be unwelcome, the elderly on social security to be called a โ€˜parasite,โ€™ all while billionaires get richer, weโ€™ve profoundly misunderstood the most basic elements of Jesusโ€™ teachings.โ€

Yep. Sourcing facts is harder now that the regime has taken down government statistics and reports. Also, the legacy media, for all its many faults, DOES do some good work, like the NYTโ€™s recent reporting on President Elonโ€™s extensive conflicts of interest and his actions that benefit his companies.

15.02.2025 01:27 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I agree. But legacy media isnโ€™t presenting facts, it ignores crimes in progress and the regimeโ€™s clear corruption (especially relating to President Elon), while it sane-washes the convicted felon. Theyโ€™re like the dog in the โ€œeverythingโ€™s fineโ€ meme: Everythingโ€™s on fire and they pretend itโ€™s not.

With utmost respect, HOW does resigning make them
A โ€œheroโ€?! Wouldnโ€™t a hero say, โ€œfuck youโ€ (figuratively speaking) and wait to be fired? Iโ€™m sincerely struggling to grasp this take.

14.02.2025 12:48 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 3    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

LOL, no! Youโ€™re clearly in search of truth and value facts (me, too). The point Iโ€™m making is just that we all need to demand better of those who say they present facts. The legacy media has utterly failed us, and we need to demand better. Thatโ€™s really all there is to it!

14.02.2025 12:35 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

ONLY the convicted felon has a kingโ€™s immunity, thanks to the Republican Supreme Court. The felon can pardon the others, if they bribe him enough (also OK, says the Supreme Court), but they have no immunity unless the God-King pardons them. No one other than His Majesty the King has immunity.

โ€œShould beโ€ was a nice idea back in the old days. For the record, I have *always* looked at multiple sources from MANY different perspectives. But I also know thatโ€™s a conceit we can no longer afford. Itโ€™s not โ€œsensationalismโ€, itโ€™s shouting โ€œthe house is on fireโ€, because it is.

News, then, is what promotes the interests of corporations and their shareholders, and NOT the general public.

14.02.2025 12:03 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I donโ€™t disagree with much of thatโ€”I used to be an activist way back when. BUT I also know legacy media is owned by corporations whose interest is NOT facts, but what promotes the interests of the corporations that own them. โ€œFactsโ€ are what promotes corporate interests, NOT truth.
