So I have a lot of weird dreams on a good day, but last night was absolute blaspheme as my brain treated me to a pure Disney Star Wars experience. That's right, a young Jedi singing "The Dark Side it Calls to Me" to the tune of Moana.

I don't think I'll ever be famous enough to be on "hot ones" but my amazing wife brought the experience home for me to test my might. A very happy early Christmas gift for me!

Pretty much how I expect things to look as my little dude grows up. 😆

As a VO engineer I definitely feel like a trash goblin picking up all the info I can from musicians and movie folks... It's had a very strange effect on how I listen to those mediums now. Anyone else found weird cross-pollination like that?

Repurposed a gaming computer (RIP gaming) to make a functional editing studio upstairs. Because being a freelancer and a parent to a little dude is a huge juggling act. At least my habit of hoarding gear is paying off 😆

Microphone Capsule Cleaning - Plasma Music Limited Microphone capsule cleaning is something that might have to be considered if you start hearing excessive noise and other sonic artefacts.

Final thoughts are don't unless you have a backup and are ok screwing something up. A clown nose isn't the worst idea. Here is a link I found that was actually helpful if you brave it. plasmamusic.com/microphone-c...

Compared against an MXL 990. Rode is left and top. It's noise floor is lower but not as much as it should be.

Quick test and I'd say 90% success. The detail is better and the harshness is cleared up. The self noise is still a bit high for an NT1 and I noticed some spots on the capsule that looked worn. Definitely usable though. Pics to follow.

I read a lot first and it's pretty much taboo. Everyone says don't. It was easy but I'll report later if I screwed up. I have the advantage of having a lot of mics and can always replace the capsule if needed. If you're environment is clean you shouldn't need to do this but I just bought this one.

Noticed my NT1 didn't sound quite right. When I opened it there was so much dust it looked like a casserole! So I did the unthinkable and decided to clean the capsule. Apparently I need to get the keyboard on this desk next.

Absolutely! I've been at what I do for a while and spent a ton of money, but only because I bought a $20 mic off Amazon and started learning. Honestly, I still don't have the perfect set up but it works and I'm happy. Bonus points: some of my best equipment is the budget stuff. 🙃

3am can't sleep thought... If space battles were as intense as the movies do you think people on the planets would pull up lawn chairs like they did during the civil war to watch?
