EWSY deserves a full thriving life & to be right in everyone's face all year (& subsequent years) because it's the best thing you've written. So many incidental joys within its pages, but the loving & respectful relationship between Eric and Carl - what a fking triumph that is. Well done, Tom.

People just don't think do they, or if they do think, they don't give a sh*t. Ignorant aholes.

Isn't that just beautiful. It never ceases to amaze me how poets can express such detail and subtlety often in few words. Mary Oliver was certainly one such poet wasn't she.

Thieving feckers! I've seen plenty of examples, as well as seen other posts about further heinous acts of theivery.

I type quite fast but I can't touch type so I make quite a few mistakes, mostly involving U, I or O. For that reason, I tend to pre-type everything I post online in Word which can be corrected before copying/pasting into whatever Iโm doing.

That's a great way to express that idea. People just need to summon the strength to switch on that torch โ or have a friend to hand them the torch.

It might be hard for people to look at it this way when they're really down but it's an essential thought, this, isn't it. "It doesn't mean they're true."

Like everything, the occasion has become monetised and people's "fun" as well as the money shops make from selling these horrible things are more important than anything else.

I hate the endless indiscriminate noise that goes on for hours although Iโm not afraid of them & my cat takes no notice. So many pets & wildlife are terrified though. Was hoping for a downpour but all that's happened are radio stations putting on animal calming shows, marketing the terror.

If I were you, young Maurine, I'd take up Sammy's offer to move to her plot. You'll have all the attention and food and your own bed right there. It'd be a win-win situaiton. And you may not be too worried about this bit, but I think Janet might be relived too! ๐

Who could've guessed a tantrum would be the result of a young, Muslim man, whoโs a democratic socialist, beating his choice for NY mayor? And, they now have female Democrat governors in Virginia and New Jersey into the bargain. Twumpโs having a proper old grey day isnโt he. Hurrah.

He's probably already working on the paperwork (or his 'yes' people minions are) depriving NY of its funding. But I'm sure he'll be having his childish tantrum soon.

Also, I meant to say I like the โsmellโ of books not the โsmallโ. I once worked in a physics research library where we had shelves of the Proceedings of the Royal Society going back to the 1600s, Newtonโs era - they smelled great as well as having beautiful bindings!

And a book-less house, in addition to looking weird, is unprotected from evil. According to your and your dadโs map, I live in the land of evil wizards, so protection is very important.

It's not selfish, sweetie, I'm sure Maurine will get used to the allotment cats' eating etiquette once he's less ravenous and understands he'll get fed plenty. And if not and he keeps watching you, I'm the the humans will keep an eye out and ensure you get your food. ๐

If I'd taken notes as I read EWSY I'd have noted these e.g.s of a lovely turn of phrase (โthe meat treeโ & people wiping the words with a soft cloth before they left their mouth)... the book was full of joyous phrases like this. But I didnโt take notes as I didnโt want to interrupt the reading flow.

Perhaps Victor was typical of his time in that he exploited his creation, in the way "freaks" or more accurately, people with differences and disabilities, were pointed at and put on show for the rubber-necking public.
