What Does the Green Party Really Want? Will Zack Polanski's party become the main political vehicle of the radical left?

In this brand new #ACFM @jemgilbert.bsky.social, Nadia Idle and I examine the Green Party's shift to the left under Zack Polanski and assess it's prospects by looking at both the history of Green Parties and what's specific about our present moment.

The Guardian view on EV charging: China took the right lessons from Britain’s past | Editorial Editorial: Megawatt fast EV charging reflects a coordinated grid strategy the UK once used. Privatisation and fragmentation now make that infrastructure far harder to build

β€œThe β€˜privatisation premium’, according to an analysis by the Common Wealth thinktank, sees almost a quarter of the average household energy bill – roughly Β£450 – flow today into corporate profits.”

Did baby boomers eat all the pies? John Lanchester on the truth about the generation gap It’s a grim time to be in your 20s, no doubt, but don’t blame it all on older people: being chopped up into ever smaller rivalries only serves the market

If you read this and think that there MUST be a more coherent, analytical, historical, political way to think about the nature of generational differences and continuities, then I highly recommend seeking out @kmilb.bsky.social's book Generation Left. www.theguardian.com/inequality/2...

Young men aren't more misogynistic than older men. The prominence of anti-women influencers like Andrew Tate is an artifact of the algorithms og oligarch controlled social media platforms rather than reflecting a change in attitudes or producing a change in attitudes.

NHS official pushed to add patient data to Palantir platform whilst also advising company

A lobbyist who worked directly for Peter Mandelson, on the Palantir board, and on the board of *four* NHS trusts.

Lobbying the NHS to hand over even more patient data to Palantir.

This absolutely stinks. Get Palantir out of the NHS. Sign my petition:

How to Think Ecologically Are humans distinct from nature? Are there natural limits to inequality? Do bacteria have agency?

This #ACFM episode on the concept of ecology pairs with our forthcoming episode on the Green Party, but it also frames the general problem the UK left finds itself in. As people are split between several different parties and projects we need to think ecologically...

I wonder if the huge spike of inflation we’ll be getting will pop the AI bubble. Data centers are incredibly energy hungry and the price of energy is going through the roof. If this is the trigger then it's much more likely to carry through to the rest of the economy and become utterly catastrophic

This #ACFM episode on the concept of ecology helps frame the general problem the UK left finds itself in. As people are split between several different parties and projects we need to think of the left as an ecosystem in which different parts interact and influence the possibilities open to others.

We need to think of the left as an ecosystem in which different parts interact and influence the possibilities open to others even without formal links. Thinking this way can help us avoid the default to ruthless competition, indeed no-holds-barred-war, that has blighted Your Party, for instance.

Podcast: James Butler, Peter Geoghegan and Ethan Shone Β· On Politics: Mandelson and the Private Life of Power

This is one of the best discussions of Epstein, Mandelson, and corporate/oligarch recapture of the Labour Party.

All political parties must now be assessed as pro-democracy/anti-oligarch or pro-oligarch/anti-democracy. There is absolutely zero middle ground.
