Pervert Politics: Trumpism’s Body Obsessions
How Republicans went from the party of prudes to the party of perversion.
"Hegseth’s vision of the American military is preoccupied with an ideal of the male form—one that’s a kind of modern mishmash of Spartan imagery and homoerotic fascist machismo. But that is only one facet of the Trumpian right’s fixation on the body." www.liberalcurrents.com/pervert-poli...

A paywalled Texas Observer piece that looks pretty interesting:
Texas Police Invested Millions in a Shadowy Phone-Tracking Software. They Won’t Say How They’ve Used It.
One sheriff who leads an anti-smuggling task force says the software helps “develop leads to eventually obtain probable cause.” Civil liberties experts say its use violates constitutional rights.

Quote: “Muskism proposes something more like social war, compensating for inequality through a language of violent exclusion and the vilification of outsiders.”
Around the world, states have become dependent on Elon Musk and his infrastructure.
What is Musk’s unprecedented rise a symptom of? And what does it mean for state sovereignty?
We spoke with @quinnslobodian.com and @bentarnoff.com about their new book Muskism.

Folks look at you like you’re crazy when you say we’re in the midst of the worst, most unprecedented Article I constitutional crisis in American history, & then it’s Saturday & senior Senators don’t know why or how or even exactly where we’re at war.

If you are a social democrat party in any country in 2026 and you are uncomfortable appealing to middle class millennial women in urban areas, you are no longer capable of engaging with your voter base as it is.

The problem with adopting the terminology "late stage capitalism" is that it becomes progressively more and more funny to cite your work as time goes by, like "as has been shown, late stage capitalism is hurtling us towards rapid collapse (Smith, 1974)".

a fivecast marketing brochure which shows social media connections between left-wing groups across the United States.
Just learning that ICE has a $4.2 million contract for social media surveillance/AI analysis with Fivecast. A few years ago I came across a brochure of theirs which used as an example for potential police customers their ability to map left-wing groups.

Some of the biggest conservative voices for crim legal reform are conservatives who have been to prison.
Not just bc it made them see how bad our prisons are (tho they mostly went to lower-level facilities), but bc it forced them to see that most ppl there were not monsters, not diff from them.

The idea that X is a proxy for the public sphere at large is a distortion effect produced by journalists, academics, and politicians themselves. It’s nowhere close to being even the most-used platform in the US—any argument that one needs to “fight for it” is absurd. 5x Bluesky and you’re at X.
