Awesome. Glad our kids had fun hanging out!
10.11.2025 12:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes. We're lucky that we have a second bathroom, because one of them was taken up with a papier mΓ’chΓ© tiger head (built around a Pilates ball) drying in the bathtub for the last couple of weeks!
10.11.2025 11:52 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0On Argyle Street, Halifax, outside Hal-Con, my wife, dressed as Derpy Tiger from K-Pop Demon Hunters, holds her (prop) flower pot up to the huge one outside the Halifax Convention Centre, as if comparing them.
My wife Kes stands in our living room dressed in her Derpy Tiger costume. The living room is a bit messy, with blankets on the couch and board games stacked on top of the book shelf in the background. Kes's costume is a powder blue onesie, painted to match Derpy's markings, as well as a large head, made of papier mΓ’chΓ©. The tongue is sticking out, and holds a small piece of paper, as in the movie (K-Pop Demon Hunters), when the Tiger is delivering a message.
She was awesome. Kids were asking to take pictures with her all weekend. She put so much work into the headpiece...
10.11.2025 02:09 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My wife sits, tired but happy, holding her Derpy Tiger head and her Hal-Con costume contest ribbon.
Man, my wife is good at everything! She randomly decided a couple of weeks ago to make a Derpy Tiger costume for Hal-Con.
It was just a goofy idea, for some fun - she's not a cosplayer, she's a remote-working research manager who coaches kids' rugby as a hobby.
Fast forward 3 weeks...
NSLC's have them.
09.11.2025 22:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Exactly. I think Boomers are often like English native speakers addressing a multinational audience.
They don't always even recognize that their pithy point describing a universal concept ("There's no 'I' in 'team'!") doesn't express something even remotely universally.
In fact, I think it was the *only* generation that really did that. Doesn't mean we shouldn't want it & try to build it, but it's not like everyone before had it good and the carpet's been uniquely pulled from under the rest.
The most pernicious lie Boomers believe is that their life was *normal*.
Tee hee. Fantastical creatures attempt to organize themselves in number order... #HalCon2025
09.11.2025 19:10 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I realize you can only show data you have, but any chance you have a sense of comparison to last year, with the Water Street & Uni Arts counters removed from last year's data, too?
09.11.2025 15:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well, thank you so much for making it work - it has been lovely to hear your thoughts in person over the last two days. I hope the city and the convention are treating you well, and that you enjoy the typewritten poem you were buying just before I bought mine!
09.11.2025 03:27 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh, man - I just realized you're doing the cross-continent sprint to be with us at @halconscificon.bsky.social . San Diego to Halifax in about 24 hours is really intense. Thank you - I'm really looking forward to hearing your talk today, and I hope you have had a chance to sleep somewhere in there!
07.11.2025 13:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Staring at Canada's own gender-based analysis of its budget. Give you one guess at the main beneficiary of all the major spending investments....
05.11.2025 01:09 β π 95 π 45 π¬ 6 π 12That doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't his rule change add 1-2 units (usually 1) to every storey in multi-storey buildings, including affordable housing. "Luxury condos" would add units, but so would the Y. Am I misunderstanding something?
03.11.2025 22:32 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Because people are currently dying by being unhoused, too - and this allows more housing to be built.
03.11.2025 18:17 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I love listening to baseball through radio commentators - they're so good at pointing out little things I would have missed, even if I was watching a video feed.

02.11.2025 01:38 β π 13445 π 1645 π¬ 231 π 130Good good. Just added 90 events to "My Schedule" for Hal-Con.
I wonder how that will go?
oh fun
Nova Scotia is going to dress up as a place that gets rain for Halloween
I recognize the scale is different, but the role that Fort McMurray, Medicine Hat, Peace River, Red Deer, Brooks, Airdrie, etc... play is to pull their reps into the Trump zone, leaving the polarization massive.
28.10.2025 12:18 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Honestly, I think we need to give huge credit, in Nova Scotia, to many of our small-medium centres being generally moderate. Bridgewater, Yarmouth, Antigonish, Baddeck, Wolfville, New Waterford - these aren't places that are pushing their (often Conservative) MLAs *further* to the right.
28.10.2025 12:15 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Did you remember to feed the cats?
26.10.2025 20:01 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yay "making slides the night before AST" club! See you there.
24.10.2025 02:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The chart's really interesting, but (please correct me if I've got this wrong) it shows Canada actually building MORE housing than some of those countries in the blue bubble (Sweden, Denmark), and very close to the same as many (Germany, Spain, Norway, Netherlands) - it's just that we started low.
23.10.2025 19:00 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I love this, and I appreciate the "most Canadian thing ever" comments, but I gotta tell ya: This is not how things go in Vancouver or Montreal...

17.10.2025 00:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I hope you're feeling better, but I will say that you were great - I had no inkling that you weren't feeling well, and the session was very effective - it gave me some extra tools for my toolbox. I joined in with my daughter who also got a lot out of it.
17.10.2025 00:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Many Canadians who used to be fine connecting in, say, New York to go to Vienna, or Los Angeles to go to Singapore, now have much stronger options presented by basic searches on the Air Canada or WestJet websites.
