Thank you for the conversation. It's good to share ideas respectfully without the end goal being about "winning" in a conventional sense. I took away some other thoughts about this, and that was definitely valuable. I appreciate your sharing your perspectives.

Oh, absolutely! She needed to break with Biden's hard pro-Israel, no-question stance and just couldn't. It cost her, and she knows it. But I'm hard pressed to think she would have been as complicit as the current regime in the atrocities. And starting a war with Iran at Bibi's instigation? No

I agree that I would love to see a real alternative here. And so advocating at the local level for primary opponents is the first action to take.

But even if Newsom gets elected, you could still pressure other offices from all levels of government to pressure for positive change.

"Yeah, I voted for you, but I'll expect action or I will seek a liberal who will act." Keep democracy, but shift in the primary, not just flip back to a party who has not maintained that commitment to core democracy.

And there is the heart of the issue. The answer isn't to vote and be done, full stop. Don't let the liberal rest if they do nothing to solve problems. Democracy has to be a full contact sport. We have to keep demanding more of our elected officials, not just up to the election but after.

I'm not about to argue anyone "must" do something they are uncomfortable with or morally opposed to. I can't be so absolutist. I just know that staying home cost in the last election cost the country - and the world - so much more than voting for the less desirable option.

The challenge I personally have with that is that it's punishment for us to have the anti-democracy politicians in office, which is the current alternative. I would love if we didn't have a two-party system with such flawed parties, but the lesser evil at least keeps the light on in this case.

Just sharing a different perspective, not arguing that you should not do what you feel you need to do, FWIW.

I get your point, but it's important people know they can vote those down ballot races and just leave the races blank as needed.

I personally tend to agree with the generals who endorsed Kamala and said we could sort out policy to after we preserved democracy. Would prefer better candidates, but...
