This is the single most incredible shot I've ever taken as a railfan. While fanning in Auburn, I saw an eastbound empty grain train heading for Stampede Pass. I was picking up a printer up the pass anyways and chased it to Palmer Junction, where it appeared right as a rainbow shone!! #railfan #train

I now know I filmed what will likely be the last inbound coal train the Trona ever handled and it's just, wow. I've talked often about railfanning being a hobby that contains a lot of grief and this hits really, really hard. I love those guys, genuinely. I wish them the best.

Woke up this morning to news that SVM is severely curtailing operations and leaving hundreds of folks without work, including 60% of the Trona's employees. I was told when I visited that things were getting bad but this is just a gut punch. The Trona is one of those railroads that seemed immortal

Streaking into retirement

On my last morning along the NEC in August, I braved the heat to meet one of my best friends for the first time in person at the Levittown station. I'd known him since 2017, so getting to chill, eat Wawa and watch the rapidly changing corridor was a dream come true for me.

Last of their kind -

The E60C-2s of the Deseret Power Railway are nostalgic to me in an odd way. I got the chance in September to stave off the grief I feel for the BM&LP by filming the Deseret for a week, and a trio of E60s races a thundercell on their way to Bonanza.

This year was kinda looking to be a weird one for travel anyways, so I'm lowkey looking at doing a couple of long-desired trips out to the Twin Ports and Edmonton and making 2026 like 2024, with two big week-long trips and a number of smaller excursions up to Ashcroft

Still waiting to hear back from NTEC before I make the trek up to Farmington to film the Navajo Mine but it's increasingly looking like that isn't going to be happening.

CP 502 in East Chicago is one of my favorite railfanning locations in all of the Midwest. NS's Chicago Line is crossed here by the IHB main, which hosts, among other trains, the famous bottle trains. An NS GP38-2 leads one such train during the bitterly cold November of 2016.
