a eastern copperhead coiled one and a half times around facing away from the camera. It has a tan body that gets lighter towards the underside, with darker brown triangular "hershey kiss" patterning repeating along its length. The end of its tail is a lime green color. It is very cute.

the same snake from a side angle. It is holding it's head up off the ground to probably try to be more imposing.

I think you have bank swallows here, NRWS tend to have a smooth transition from brown to white where as these have a stark change. The neckband would be obscured though unfortunately

also also tonight is the peak of the perseids meteor shower so keep looking up after that moon is lower!

A large burnished orange ant-like insect with 2 yellowish spots on its abdomen with very blocky proportions sitting on the edge if a rock embedded in dry muddy gravel.

a closer look at the insect, fine hairs can be seen on its body, hence where they get the name velvet ant.

Wow what did you put out for them? We've never had any luck getting them to come to feeders, despite them being all over the area. This year has been rainier than most others lately, hopefully not seeing them just means that they found alot more food in the wild 🤞

our local one usually squawks 3 times around 1am almost every night. first time I thought maybe some mammal was poking around its sleeping spot but its so regular I think its just what they do

this was my guess as well, and after looking up undertail patterns a palm should have some yellow at the base and this one doesn't seem to

also in pa, tan jumpers I usually see on wood like tree trunks or telephone poles and can be gray.

huh interesting, I didn't know that was a thing. Ours does that too, often frequently. I thought she was scent marking. We did suspect she didnt come from a home though because we got her from a rescue at 3, and she only just got spayed there. gotta stay vigilant 😔🤞
