This is Perth... we're the furthest place from everywhere!
08.10.2025 06:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Such chaos! But this is what a secondhand bookstore *should* look like!

A little bland, even for a lager. But I have to agree, West is best!

7-Eleven nachos with meat and cheese out of the nozzle were a life saver after a big night out.

03.10.2025 09:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Frankland, a cool little pub in Nornalup this is only open during school holidays.
It has a great range of beers, and even brews a few of its own.

Tree top walk in the Valley of the Giants. The walkway was constantly moving, which was disconcerting.

...and I gotta tell you, it didn't disappoint!

A collection of all the different ways we've been trying (and usually failing) to cure illness prior to modern medicine.
It's disheartening to see how often the authors identified a particular bit of quackery is still circulating today.

A light hazy with hints of orange. Very good. From Tallboy and Moose, in Melbourne.
28.09.2025 09:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Boozy, fruity hazy from Evil Mega Corp. Pale, and not as thick as I'd expect. But still very good.

An imperial pecan brown ale from Evil Mega Corp. Beautifully nutty and malty, and very warming at 9.5%. A magnificent beer.

A witbier with a decent hop kick, and hefty ABV. Not quite a weizenbock, but in those areas. I like it!

This is not the best stout in the world... It's just a tribute.

I can't taste much hop character, but it's definitely a sour, and there's plenty of peanut butter.
What an abomination!
I'm glad I live in a world where this exists, and I can try it. But I hate it! π

Porters seem to have gone missing in 2025, so I was glad to find one, even if it is a hopped-up version of the style.
From Phat Brew Club in Western Australia.

Earth have delivered again with this very nice hazy. Well balanced, not super sweet, with subtle mango flavours.

Alien Clay, by Adrian Tchaikovsky.
I love Tchaikovsky's writing, he's got such a great range of styles.
I enjoyed this a lot early, but it ended up recycling some of the ideas from Children of Time in the last 100 pages. So I was a little bored by the end. Still fun though.

It's officially warm enough to drink beer on my front step again. This honeycomb pale ale is quite sweet, as you'd expect. Very refreshing.

A cold IPA I actually like! Well played Earth Brewing!

Pacific, by Simon Winchester.
This was an odd history, focussing on 10 different key events to form a loose story of the last 100 years or so of the Pacific Ocean.
This made the book easier to read than a more traditional history, and Winchester has an easy, conversational style that worked well.

Today is Surfer's Brewery. The first impressions are that it's more of a tourist trap than one for the aficionados.
But it's the brewery within walking distance, so let's give it a try.
More beers at Madocke. What an amazing brewery. This has been a real treat.

Haven't had Fixation IPA for years, but jumped at the chance when I saw it at my hotel. Beautiful, classic, west coast IPA, that's still great after all these years.

Reynolds is usually known for hard sci-fi, but this had a touch of steam-punk thrown in, and a surprisingly emotional ending. One of my favourites of his so far.

A hazy from Campus Brewing. A little thin and underwhelming, which is a shame, Campus are often fantastic.
