05.12.2025 06:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I almost accidentally just bought scented chanukah candles. I did not know that was a thing, but I think it is weird.
Tangentially related, I think I'm going to get some Stick-Um finally because every year I get annoyed with tilted or wobbly candles. How hard is it to get that shit out after?
I would like this more if it was an Onion article.

04.12.2025 00:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0On one hand, this would be fantastic.
On the other hand, when a person has made attention seeking their entire personality, I'm wary of what endeavour that person might try next.
oh why am i bothering to engage with hateful people
fuck this.
I don't think men should be allowed in women's organisations either. Good thing trans women are women. As you said, "it's right in the name."

I see less ICE in the news right now, but that's topic fatigue not decreased events. Things were bad before but they are getting much worse, faster.
"Argue with Jews about Jewish stuff" seems to be a pretty big fucking theme lately.
02.12.2025 22:34 β π 29 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0LOL I got added to a dramaqueen list for this post. Normally I don't give a shit about mute/block lists but I got to say, if ANYTHING is worthy of being dramatic over, it is watching people being kidnapped in front of their family after they complied with the law and attended their court appearance
02.12.2025 20:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Whenever I think I've reached critical rage, something makes me madder. Despite being long fueled by anger, it continues to surprise me. Is there a ceiling to blinding wrath? Can I just get infinitely mad?
This is a post about today's local ICE kidnappings, but could be about anything in the news.
came here to post this.
01.12.2025 05:40 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0By Wendy Elisheva Somerson. The print is of a linocut of a raven flying between two trees. On the tree trunks it reads "Thank you dear trees for holding the earth & sky" and then it says "Tu B'Shvat" in Hebrew in the bottom right.
Three pieces by artist Emily K @museum.of.emilyk.art, featuring Hebrew and Yiddish calligraphy. On the top left is On The Ethics of Punching A White Supremacist. On the top right is Tzefardeβa Tzedek β Frog of Righteousness, modeled after the frog suits worn at the Portland No Kings protests. On the bottom centered is Daloy Politzei! which is in Yiddish. All prints can be found at https://www.emilyk.art/product-category/prints
Artist is pinebones, piece called "New Years Even Nightfall" shows a bird diving from the sky and pulling down the skyline behind it. The body of the bird and the sky looks celestial with starts and a moon. The background is yellows and pinks and reds of a sunset, with a dark mountain in the background on a low flat plain. Print can be found https://www.pinebones.com/shop-wilderness-folk-art
Artist is Erica Williams, known as Hookieduke, piece entitled "Seeds of Volya" featuring yellow sunflowers framed by a banner that says "Sunflowers will grow on the land when you lie down". It is very ornate and delicate in its illustrative style. I believe the piece was a fundraiser for the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund. I don't think the print is available anymore but her store is https://shop.hookieduke.com/collections/prints
Anyway, here are some of my favourites right now but it was very hard to choose four since that's all Bluesky allows.
Artists and print into in the alt.
Maybe I'm a bit biased because my mother was a professional artist, her mother was a professional artist, and her mother was a professional artist (I broke the streak) so art is deep in my bones, but I think all humans need art.
So please buy art that makes you happy if you're able.
Anyway, as you see artists during the shopping season and you see that print that you love but waffle because maybe you think it costs more than it "should" be worth, consider its enduring value to yourself. Consider that you're supporting someone bringing beauty into the world.
It's worth it!
Look, if things are so tight that it's food or art, of course feed yourself. But if you're fortunate enough to still have a little money to spend on adding happiness to your life, you can't go wrong with art.
You spend $60 on a print, and you love it for years, that's nothing per day!
We all have things we've bought that we regret -- that jacket that looked better in the store, the tchotchke stuffed in the closet, the kitchen appliance you used twice -- but how many of you regret a piece of art you've bought?
01.12.2025 02:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A piece of art that resonates is going to bring you joy every time you look at it, for a very long time. It can uplift your mood, it can bring you hope, it can evoke nostalgia, awe at its beauty, or inspire action in you, every day.
Few things in life have that power, and stick with you like that.
Saw an artist today express appreciation that people would spend money on their work even in a time of financial difficulties and it really made me think about the practical value of art and I kinda wanted to ramble about it for a bit:
If you've got a little money, art is an AMAZING bargain.
We were TALKING about broken rockabilly penises please donβt drag down the discourse
30.11.2025 04:35 β π 509 π 13 π¬ 13 π 0An adult bald eagle with signature white head stands in profile on top a wooden pylon. The backdrop is a hill covered with green and yellowish scrub.
An adult bald eagle in a tree. It's chest is facing the camera but the head is turned to the side, viewed almost in profile.
At least one bald eagleπͺΆ buddy today! You can't really tell from my (bad) photos, but the shot where it's on a pylon, it has a fish that it is snacking on. The second photo in the tree is about five hours later - probably the same eagle but not necessarily.
