I almost accidentally just bought scented chanukah candles. I did not know that was a thing, but I think it is weird.

Tangentially related, I think I'm going to get some Stick-Um finally because every year I get annoyed with tilted or wobbly candles. How hard is it to get that shit out after?

They took multiple people from the courthouse today, which has been a near-daily occurrence that has been escalating sharply over the last 3 weeks.

I see less ICE in the news right now, but that's topic fatigue not decreased events. Things were bad before but they are getting much worse, faster.

Normally I don't give a shit about mute/block lists but I got to say, if ANYTHING is worthy of being dramatic over, it is watching people being kidnapped in front of their family after they complied with the law and attended their court appearance

Whenever I think I've reached critical rage, something makes me madder. Despite being long fueled by anger, it continues to surprise me. Is there a ceiling to blinding wrath? Can I just get infinitely mad?

Artist is Erica Williams, known as Hookieduke, piece entitled "Seeds of Volya" featuring yellow sunflowers framed by a banner that says "Sunflowers will grow on the land when you lie down". It is very ornate and delicate in its illustrative style. I believe the piece was a fundraiser for the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund. Anyway, here are some of my favourites right now but it was very hard to choose four since that's all Bluesky allows.

Maybe I'm a bit biased because my mother was a professional artist, her mother was a professional artist, and her mother was a professional artist (I broke the streak) so art is deep in my bones, but I think all humans need art.

So please buy art that makes you happy if you're able.

Anyway, as you see artists during the shopping season and you see that print that you love but waffle because maybe you think it costs more than it "should" be worth, consider its enduring value to yourself. Consider that you're supporting someone bringing beauty into the world.

It's worth it!

Look, if things are so tight that it's food or art, of course feed yourself. But if you're fortunate enough to still have a little money to spend on adding happiness to your life, you can't go wrong with art.

You spend $60 on a print, and you love it for years, that's nothing per day!

We all have things we've bought that we regret -- that jacket that looked better in the store, the tchotchke stuffed in the closet, the kitchen appliance you used twice -- but how many of you regret a piece of art you've bought?

A piece of art that resonates is going to bring you joy every time you look at it, for a very long time. It can uplift your mood, it can bring you hope, it can evoke nostalgia, awe at its beauty, or inspire action in you, every day.

Few things in life have that power, and stick with you like that.

Saw an artist today express appreciation that people would spend money on their work even in a time of financial difficulties and it really made me think about the practical value of art and I kinda wanted to ramble about it for a bit:
