Purpose: The arch was built to serve as an entrance to the military complex, which included Fort Charles. It also serves as a memorial to the Royal Engineers who died during an 1850 cholera epidemic.

† The Savanna-la-mar Court House was built in 1925. It is located on Great George Street, one of the major streets in the town. It is in Norman Square. The governor had donated the land called Norman Square. The square which has several other public buildings is protected by Jamaican Law. This Act is known as the Norman Square Act of 1891. This piece of legislation ensured that: the expressions of Norman Square shall be deemed to include all piece or parcel of land in the town of Savanna-la-mar around the Court House

† St. Peter's Church (Alley) is one of the oldest Anglican churches on the island. It was founded in 1671 as the parish church of Vere. The present building was erected around 1715 on foundations of the original structure. † The church's organ is said to be the oldest in the Commonwealth Caribbean and dates from 1847. The church bell was cast in 1857 by Messrs Mears of Whitechapel in London, the same foundry that made Big Ben.
