I believe @nytimes @DropSiteNews and @BBC are wrong about the 1st shot in Pretti's killing: his gun goes off in the officer's hand. It recoils, there's a puff of smoke, the gun ejects a shell casing, the cloth on the ground shakes from the discharge. to be clear: this doesn't excuse the other shots.

That's what makes this an execution, in my opinion, regardless of the negligent discharge: they were clearly ready, and willing to kill Pretti for no reason. The mag dump after the first shots shows that, and we can see one of them celebrating and clapping afterwards.

However, the more important point is: I don't think negligent discharge is an excuse for what happened. There never should have been 6 officers beating a man on the ground, pulling their weapons ready to fire at him for the crime of helping a woman who was pushed to the ground.

I completely disagree on him going limp after the first shot. The stabilized video that is now circulating online, imo, shows he starts falling when hit by the 3 consecutive shots, after the first one.
