There are two main food groups:
Food that goes with gravy
Food that goes with custard
I am willing to admit that the majority of the former can see gravy replaced by ketchup. I’ve always been sceptical on the use of both together.

Coffee's hidden health benefits | James Hoffmann and Prof. Tim Spector
If you have some time, I recommend this recent interview with two experts discussing the health benefits of coffee. Tim Spector is a highly cited researcher in nutrition science, and James Hoffman is a renowned expert on coffee. It's worth your time.

Album of the Day
Into the Pandemonium by Celtic Frost
This is getting a lot of plays at Flaneur Towers at the moment. Just an amazing melange of extreme metal and other genres, even after all these years you’re never quite certain what comes next. Unfortunately what did come next was…

Album of the Day
One by Bob James
Worth it for the track Nautilus alone, this first solo smooth jazz offering from James is a lovely mixture of classical takes & steps forward. Considered influential in the later Hip Hop scene this is a great record from 1974 which deserves to be better known.

Album of the Day
Hypocrisy is the Greatest Luxury by The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy
Incredible album that basically shows that we have learned nothing over the past decades, quite the opposite.

Album of the Day
The Scream by Siouxsie & the Banshees
One of my absolute favourite albums. It’s amazing how this debut came fully formed adding new dimensions to the punk sound. I love how it’s both veiled & experimental while also being laden with lovely melodies & great arrangements.

Album of the Day
The Stooges by The Stooges
It consistently does my head in that this album came out in 1969. It still feels like a total outlier to me that was somehow projected into the past. I guess that underlines its huge influence, although perhaps only really years afterwards.

Gentlemen Take Polaroids by Japan
Really I could have chosen any Japan album as the band never put out one gram of filler. I picked this one for its diversity & the particular presence of ‘Nightporter’ which, for me, is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded.

I have the M3s… if I didn’t I’d probably go for the M4s mainly because the M5s seem to be a bit of a step back in design (they don’t fold and feel a bit cheaper). However, any in the range will not let you down.

Album of the Day
Good Morning Spider by Sparklehorse
Written on the back of a life-altering accident while taking an overdose, Mark Linkous reflects on the complex emotions that grew from this. The result is a stark, angry & beautiful album which stands as a highlight in his far too short life.

Pleasure to Kill by Kreator
Off to see these lot with Testament and Anthrax in Manchester tonight. Definitely my favourite Kreator album full of ace riffs and an almost claustrophobic intensity.

Album of the Day
Sound on Sound by Bill Nelson’s Red Noise
One of my all time favourite albums. An early 1979 release, it both stands apart from what was going on at the time, while drawing on so much of it. It still sounds fresh & vibrant today though… the very definition of a one-off gem!

Album of the Day
I See A Darkness by Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy (Domino)
Probably my favourite Will Oldham record. A beautifully bleak and stripped back set in absolute terms, although some of his other works are perhaps even more so. A great place to start if you want to hear more of his music.

Album of the Day
I’m Stranded by The Saints
It seems a good time to share this, with the 4 LP vinyl box set coming out this weekend. Arguably a band who were underrated at the time but have come to be seen as very influential over the year. A great garage band who deserve the recognition.

Album of the Day
Medicine by Goat (Rocket Recordings)
As I saw them at Rock City in Nottingham last night I thought I would post my favourite Goat album. I find it far more in the Swedish earthy progg vibe than the rest of their output… tending more towards spiritual introspection.
