10 Year Health Plan for the NHS Skip to main content

A year on since coming to power, the government's 10 Year Health Plan sets out the direction of travel for the #NHS.

The plan is hugely ambitious. But can it deliver on that ambition? 💭

Nice display of how flow is greater than numbers in the cause of long waits. How does this contrast with the community care focus of the 10-year plan?

Two scatterplots side by side. The chart on the left shows the relationship - or - rather - the lack thereof - between the number of A&E attendances per day and each day's four-hour compliance. The chart on the right shows the (quite strong) relationship between the level of crowding in the A&E each day and each day's four-hour compliance.

It was good to see @samfr.bsky.social say today that "the main reason for lengthy A&E waiting times is the lack of hospital beds for people who need admitting, which gums up the whole system as they have to keep being treated by emergency staff."

“Nigel Farage said he no longer wants an NHS funded through general taxation”.

He wants to replace the NHS entirely with Private Health Care.
We may see Reform gaining votes from those who would suffer most from his ideology.

Sound familiar?

Realising the three shifts: preventing more people from reaching crisis point will be one measure of success | The King's Fund Can prioritising non-clinical support for people who frequently attend A&E contribute to the government’s ambition to deliver three major shifts in health and care?

'Fundamentally, work to better support those who frequently attend A&E is about intervening early to prevent people from reaching crisis point' says Leila Morris in her recent blog. Find out more about the link between prevention and reducing attendance in A&E here:

Great to see our paper published in the British Paramedic Journal this month.

The article formed part of our work in developing and refining the #OHNLS course.

Unbelievably gratifying to see such positive results which will hopefully translate to better care for #babies born out of hospital

Stigmatised patient cohorts are as deserving of your care as any other.

Drug addicts.
Alcoholics.
Smokers.
Overweight.
Underweight.
Homeless.
Asylum seekers.
Minority ethnic groups.
Sex workers.
The mentally ill.

You must not alter your approach to healthcare because of your own biases.
