Just look at rogue for this example, itβs ending created ambivalence between his new and old coping mechanismsβ making him directly confront his trauma of losing Rogue. It shows how although the doctor likes to run and still doesβ it is not healthy to run from emotions and instead he confronts them.

showing emotion is absolutely not something to criticise, itβs a more emotionally developed version of the doctor, resolving some of his conflicts so that a new audience can jump in easier to watching 15. Itβs still shown in a nuanced manner.

His emotionality stems from the conclusion of a part of his arc stemming back decades, how the doctor bottles up his emotions and keeps struggling on forwards. Itβs with the help he recieves from Donna as 14 and time he has to reflect that he becomes more emotional.

Everyone is unified by the fact that, at some point, they will face loss. Only those who can continue on in spite of that inetivability can reap its experience.
For today you happen to be defeated.
But what will you become tomorrow?
