better, smarter people than me have spoken on this but this is one of the main issues with kpop all up, imo. Black people's involvement in kpop goes largely unacknowledged despite the fact that the entire music and dance style is hiiiiiiiighly derivative of Black American culture.

I also really want to encourage people to check out the work of Korean artist Ayoung Kim, who did a powerful multimedia work about the treatment of Syrian refugees in Korea, for which she was a finalist for the Korea Artists Prize in 2019
