Back in the summer, while walking in the Lake District, I came across a sign attributed to The Department of Lakeland Animism. I was curious about the group but can't find a single lead in online searches. Does anyone know anything about who is behind this?

Listening to the fascinating @jackashby.bsky.social unpack the hidden narratives and politics of natural history museum collections. I will never look at taxidermy the same way again.

Thank you @somersetwildlands.bsky.social for guiding me round your rewilding sites. I loved this worn, warped but still alive tree. It's exciting to think of what these patches of land might become months and decades (and centuries??) from now!

I met some giant sequoia this morning, in the appropriately named Big Tree Grove, just outside Bristol. There are apparently more sequoia in the UK than in their native US. Apparently their seeds arrived here in 1853. Given their long lives, this giant must be in its youth. doi.org/10.1098/rsos...

Came across this critter at the allotment this morning. The first time I had met a #newt out and about. I don't suppose any herpetologists could ID it from this picture?

I'm used now to news articles referring to "X, formerly known as Twitter". Today I read one that referred to "Twitter, formally known as X".

Took a moment to realise what was going on

Hats off to the unknown subeditor.
