Virginia and Leonard Woolf moved to Monks Cottage 1919. Woolf walked the downs daily and Leonard was a keen gardener.  A new play,  Fame and Rapture explores this.

#Katherine #Mansfield was born on this day in 1888 in #Wellington, New Zealand. One of #modernism's important #writers, Katherine was one of six siblings. She returned to London in 1908 after a short time in NZ she was determined to become a writer.

This is one of Virginia Woolf's desks - bought over 100 years ago from Heals on Tottenham Court Road- this one sits in the writing shed at the bottom of the garden at Monk's Cottage. She hoped to host Katherine Mansfield but she was abroad as her health was failing. #writers #Fame and #Rapture
