A passage from Jack Kerouac’s 1962 novel Big Sur, adapted into song by Jay Farrar & Ben Gibbard. And that song played on repeat in my head as we rode on the California Zephyr. Spectacular!

“Now I’m transcontinental, three thousand miles from my home,
I’m on the California Zephyr, watchin’ America roll by.”

Earlier this week,we rode the California Zephyr and watched everything roll by, including this morning view of the Harvest Moon setting over eastern Utah.

These days I find myself swinging between wanting to scream at trump supporters and wanting to give them a hug. I keep trying to remember that they are human and are/were someone’s child, however misguided & ill-informed they are now.

Now we live in a neighborhood with many American Foursquare homes. One of the characteristics of these homes is a wonderfully wide front porch. Here’s one view from ours.
