The Tkachuk affair is the sign that it’s time to stop talking about this story—not because it’s not important but because, finally, the most naive people involved in this saga have been taken to task over it. Tkachuk was the most sad-sack of these cases, but nearly every member of the American team has had to submit to a session of meddling questions about their last few days as part of Trump’s political project. A small number of them offered medium-grade apologies (not always including the word “sorry”) for the men’s team joining Trump in making fun of the women’s team. These players have learned what all who lend their credibility to Donald Trump eventually learn: They do not get to decide how he uses them or what happens to their reputations when he does.

I read in the newspaper that your community is mystified by the outcry from all over the country about what you have done. Well, you have discovered that Drake is a part of American civilization, and your fellow Americans can’t stand it that you have behaved in such an uncivilized way. Perhaps you will learn from this that books are sacred to free men for very good reasons, and that wars have been fought against nations which hate books and burn them. If you are an American, you must allow all ideas to circulate freely in your community, not merely your own.

An irony here is the article points out that Knight holds the "U.S. women's" record for most goals.

But she has twice as many as the holder of the "U.S. men's" record.

So why not just "the record for the most goals by any American player"? Why not that, NBC?

I can’t in good conscience encourage any AI use whatsoever in the context of a college education. Maybe some find it useful in the workplace, but it is counterproductive in my workplace where we are teaching skills, not outsourcing them.

Which makes sense. Every other country has a word in its official name that directly points at them. Here, we have united (a common adjective) and states (a common noun) and America. So what other option is there?

Ergo, we have been and are America. Even if it does come off a little cocky.

I understand that but common usage is common usage and acting confused isn't going to change that. Maybe it shouldn't be that way but there is literally no other one-word way to describe a citizen of the United States and no other country in either continent that has ever gone by just "America."

Are you telling me that you can't figure this out from context or are you just messing with me.
