6. Bergvall’s mishit passes on the breaks. “A positive?” Yes. If he plays those a bit better that would have been 2x additional clear cut chances. Good to see him and Gray getting an extended run now, they’ll keep improving with these extra minutes.

5. Pombo was unlucky with the offside goals. He also had a few nice little flicks. Whenever a team’s pressing he struggles a bit in those tight spaces, but this type of game is where he can be effective (more room when played in to him in build up, plus space to get on the end of a few crosses).

4. Enjoyed seeing the Big Goose back after his extended layoff. Would have been something if he scored with his first touch (header). Interesting to see how he fits in with Frank’s setup in the coming weeks, and another threat in there from set pieces.

3. Super happy for Gray to get off the mark. You could see how much it meant to him as well. Hopefully a nice confidence builder as he continues to cement his place in the team.

2. Palhinha had a solid cameo too. I like him in ‘The Night Manager’ role, coming in later in games to provided some solidity. A couple of crunching tackles.

1. Odobert was such a great spark off the bench. I know there are mixed opinions on him, but I think he’s one worth persisting with. Unlucky not to score as well.

Just caught up on the Palace game. Actually enjoyed it, and that’s a solid away win!

I do think it actually makes sense financially too, especially if you’re doing that while wanting to develop younger players alongside some experience.

I do agree re the owners not actually changing, or still needing to convince us that they mean what they say.

Happy to develop younger players but still believe that has to be backed by both owners and fans… and I fear both may want faster results 🤷‍♂️ (Hence maybe needing a more hybrid approach.)

For sure. To clarify as well, not suggesting we flood the squad with them, and I wouldn’t want average/deadwood type players. More so some sensible purchases that aren’t considered more hot prospects. Ones that can actually serve a purpose reliably and provided a bit more of a floor for us.

For me it also comes down to the owners too. If they’re happy to miss out on CL but still invest then let’s go long-term. But if they’re still tying their investment levels to CL qualification etc, then I’d see that as a pretty big hurdle.

I’m on board for going all in on the younger players like Tel, Odobert, Gray, Berg etc, but I have doubts that fans will give that approach enough time if the results aren’t improving quickly. I’m also wary of overplaying them if we’d still be in multiple comps.

Or if there are high quality players available for loan in a push for WC squads etc.

This was meant to be with the context of mainly being until the end of the season. I don’t see any fair value technical players available in Jan. I do agree that we need more technical quality in areas, but I’d also prefer some more PL experienced squad members as well, rather than just youth.

💯 The BBQs would be a complete shambles at the moment.

It’s also clear to me that this guy is still very positive about where we can go. The “we finished 17th” is halfway through a thought, not a finite statement or jab.
