I suspect they don’t appreciate the irony

1/9. In 2020 Iran did try to interfere with the presidential election.

I’m fascinated to know what the decision making processes are in Palantir, not only because the company is openly evil, but just as much because some of their decisions seem to obviously stupid

Palantir Sues Swiss Magazine For Accurately Reporting That The Swiss Government Didn’t WantΒ Palantir If you run a company whose entire value proposition is the ability to see patterns, predict outcomes, and connect dots that others miss, you'd think someone in the building might have flagged that suing a small independent magazine over unflattering-but-accurate reporting would only guarantee that millions more people read it. And yet, here we are. Palantir Technologies, the infamous surveillance and data analytics giant chaired by Peter Thiel, has…

Not to say that generative AI systems aren't useful for some purposes. But it's quite silly that we should replace such very basic tasks with Gen AI just because Sam Altman says so on the Tonight Show

What I find especially weird about pitches to use generative AI in everyday business is that you can write an email based on a prompt. I can win any race with a prompt writer writing an email my damn self.

One thing I’ve come to appreciate about Norm Macdonald’s comedy is that he showed how funny moral clarity can be. His Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee talking about Bill Cosby is probably my favourite example. The people miss you, Norm

The biggest effect I see from people still spending time on Xβ€”which many deny or don't even noticeβ€”is how it shifts their perception of what's normal. Such as:

Actively anti-trans is speaking like a normal person
Objecting to Nazi symbols turns off the working class
Epstein knew a bunch of Jews
etc

This is a fascinating & informative piece about how the conspiracist influencers of the modern far-right eat each other over the bizarre webs of ever-proliferating content they need to spin to keep their cashflows running

Fair point about the Platner thing.

Whether he knew who Peters was or not, just being on Twitter makes this kind of thing a lot more likely. You're constantly being exposed to white nationalists there and you might not even realize it. Get out now and avoid the collateral damage.

He's not right to dismiss it out of hand, but I understand that hostile attitude to criticisms of the COVID vaccine. After going through the conspiracist climax of 2022, it took me a long time to dial down my suspicion that anyone pointing out problems with vaccines was priming for indoctrination

I'm waiting for some news about a job opportunity that I hope will be positive, but until then, I'm working on my fiction writing. It's something that keeps me feeling productive & engaged when my career is in this liminal space between a downsizing sector & grasping for new potentials

My wife keeps telling me I'm autistic but would an autistic person separate their jelly beans by color or collect and organize tens of thousands of comic books or get really anxious and agitated if routines and schedules get disrupted? I don't think so.

This is exactly right. The Onion quietly left Twitter a month ago and... our weekly subscribers went up. It's because we're doing well here, on Instagram and on YouTube.

As a business, being on Twitter is somewhere between useless or detrimental, unless you're selling boner pills.

Sargent's objective tone understates how radical & dangerous the growth of ICE & CBP is: This is a massively-funded, fully-armed paramilitary force recruited largely from white supremacist militias whose purpose is the violent suppression of the populace of the United States

Someone who believes in weird health science conspiracies, for example, without actually knowing anything about the history of vaccine development & disease research, is building their ontology without empiricist epistemology. Understanding existence without learning about what exists

You can’t have a functional ontology without an empiricist epistemology. This is actually a very politically radical statement
