While the exact origins of the artifact aren’t clear, it is believed to have been collected during Captain James Cook’s third voyage, and is currently housed at the British Museum.

Hemispherical mosaic glass bowl viewed from above. It measures 13.2 cm in diameter and 7.5 cm in height. The glass is composed of sections of star patterned cane in blue, purple (looks black in my photo), and green, which appear as a floral pattern. The bowl has a black and white spiral rim. Made in the eastern Mediterranean about 200-100 BC. The bowl has been reconstructed and blue glass fragments which do not belong to this vessel have been used to fill missing areas.

This lovely Hellenistic mosaic glass bowl looks so modern, yet it was made over 2,000 years ago!

Ancient glassmakers created the tiny flower pattern using a technique now known as β€˜millefiori’ (thousand flowers). A timeless design still made by glassmakers today!

This year, I promise to read more and actually finish books before picking up new ones.

Here are four books that I plan on reading in 2025.

Are you a serial book-jumper like me? What's on your list?

Would love to hear your recommendations. #books #history #archaeology #nature

Reminds me of my master's thesis where I studied Iron-Nickel meteorites. Tutankhamun's dagger was made of the same material and it was common among people of Greenland to use it for making tools till recent times( specifically the Cape York meteorite).
