I also think nationalism plays a large role in it. The feeling that the USA is the greatest country in the world, and even though they've never been anywhere else, and that America is never the bad guy. 9/11 only made this worse.

Yes but it still blows my mind the level of incompetence, stupidity, corruption & down right evilness that people will not only overlook, but make excuses for.
