The profundity and intuitive accuracy of her analysis extend beyond only an account of the 1970 women's liberation movement in Japan. I feel it is a powerful contribution to sociology and even philosophy.

She overall contends that teasing as a phenomenon moves what would otherwise be socially sanctioned conflicts into the context of "play" and "familiarity" to constrain counteracts on the part of the "teased."

Ehara's analysis of the structure of teasing as a social phenomenon is clear and powerful. She primarily intends to explain why opposition to the women's lib movement in Japan during the 1970s as expressed in mass media mostly took the form of "teasing" and "ridicule" rather "blatant hostility."

I recently read Ehara Yumiko's (江原 由美子) "The Politics of Teasing" 「からかいの政治学」 in the book Contemporary Japanese Thought (it also appears in the volume >『増補　女性解放という思想』)
