The Biden Admin directed hundreds of billions to clean energy/manufacturing.
Did these investments shift public opinion?
We find that these projects are visible but not traceable: People notice nearby investments, but connect them to Governors, not Biden.

New w/@scottclifford.bsky.social.
Lots of work uses agree-disagree scales, and a lit review shows these are 1) frequently just measured in one direction (agree = higher trait) and 2) correlated with each other.
This has potentially big issues for conclusions.

Exciting news! We just posted an opening for a Survey Associate on @pewresearch.org's Methods team! This is an amazing opportunity for someone relatively early in their career to join what is, IMO, the most fun methods team in the business. Full description at the link below.

With the Olympics done, my time at The Post is also done. Itβs been an amazing five-plus years. The people I worked with werenβt just supremely talented, they were also great humans. This was truly a dream job and Iβm eternally grateful I got this opportunity. And Iβll be keeping my WaPo subscription because while what happened was horrific and nonsensical, there are still great journalists in that building doing essential work. This country needs them, especially in these times.

Are Americans polarized in their attitudes toward higher education? π€
Using some @electionstudies.bsky.social data, the answer seems to be: Yes, but not dramatically so, and there's a tendency for more experience with higher ed. to be associated w/ more positive ratings. π

π¨ New from me: Grant review at more than half of NIH's institutes could be frozen by the end of the year.

π¨(Software) Update:
In my PhD, I had a side project to fix an annoying problem: when you ask 5 people to label the same thing, you often get different answers. But in ML (and lots of other analyses), you still need a single aggregated answer. Using the majority vote is easyβbut often wrong.
