I get it. The UI for entering alt-text here and on most other apps is a pain in the ass. Unnecessarily so. But if you’re gonna do it, you have to remember it’s for someone who can’t see your images well or at all. For them to find your alt-text bonus joke funny, you still have to put all the context

Like, being a silly goose in the alt-text is fine as long as you still describe the full content of the image.

I’ve seen alt-text of post screenshots very recently that had sarcastic jokes about the content instead of the full content itself. It doesn’t matter if the person in the screenshot is saying some smooth-brained bullshit. Type it out in the alt-text so screenreader users know what they said in full.

It’s to describe an image with enough reasonable context that a screen reader user who *cannot see your images BTW* can understand your post/thread in full just as a sighted person can. This means transcribing screenshots posts and quote posts in full.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but putting jokes and commentary in the alt-text field isn’t the purpose of alt-text and isn’t meeting the accessibility purpose of it.
