I worry that this is an idle threat. I can just as easily see them focusing on pet issues (climate change, gun control) or coming apart over divisive issues (Israel).

Like, compare someone providing legal defense to a murderer (legal and fine) with someone providing an alibi to protect a murderer (illegal and bad). I think the distinction is important.

I get the politics of it, but I'm just wondering if there is a better format than this? Like, I know it can't go on all day, but this is ridiculous, IMO.

I think this format of only giving committee members five minutes each is bad. Nothing is accomplished at all, other than political theater. Am I wrong? Is there a rules change that would make these hearings more effective?
