Got our flu and COVID booster shots today at CVS with no trouble. Spouse made the appointment, I believe there was only one generic Y/N question as far as health conditions went.
Fingers crossed that the after-effects are minimal but the schedule is cleared and I’ve got plenty of books just in case

A white and blue pinstriped candy bar wrapper. It has the old blue and yellow "mitt" Brewers logo, next to the words "Milwaukee Brewer Bar"
Milwaukee Brewer Bar (1982-1982): In October of 1982, to celebrate their first (and to date only) league championship, the Brewers released a commemorative crispy rice milk chocolate bar. The bars were immensely popular, but unfortunately, Milwaukee lost the World Series to the Cardinals

Oh, didn’t realize that Catwoman is Cooke, might have to get that out myself.
For me, the Compacts are great for travel (nice to not look at a screen sometimes) and at $10, I don’t mind the duplication

Just re-read it myself after I popped for the new Absolute Edition. In my Top 5 for sure. Then watched the animated version twice (once with Darwyn commentary) afterwards. And not ruling out buying the Compact version for an upcoming flight!

Unnamed antagonist from the classic FF #51 story, “This Man…This Monster”
The same unnamed scientist sets up his apparatus, including a harness on his body, to steal Ben Grimm’s appearance and powers
Y’know, I might be wrong here…
*This* is the guy he looks like—

Brazilian band Os Mutantes playing on an outdoor stage at a Milwaukee street festival
As an short aging guy with personal space issues, there’s probably a rapidly approaching expiration date for me and street fair/festival/standing room type shows.
That said, glad I made it out to see Brazilian music legends Os Mutantes for the princely sum of $0

Clip from THEY LIVE where Nada, using the special sunglasses that see through the alien subliminal messages, sees dollar bills with stating “THIS IS YOUR GOD”
Nada and Frank enter a ballroom of the aliens celebrating with the speaker saying “Our projections show that by the year 2025…”
Re-watched THEY LIVE (1988) tonight and while I knew it would hit hard in these times, I didn’t expect a callout to THIS EXACT YEAR

A robot takes a book out of a kid’s hands saying it’s a forbidden book, the kid says “Machines can’t boss people” while the robot responds “Robots know better than humans”
Magnus Robot Fighter karate chops the head off of one police robot, grabs another by the head, swings it around until the head comes off and the body flies away while the dying robot goes “squeeee”
Reading a collection of Magnus Robot Fighter 4000 A.D. and it’s oddly satisfying in 2025 A.D. to read about a hero whose main superpower is to beat the living crap out of robots
(love how the robots go “squeeee” when he destroys them too)

I dream that one day drivers will have the same patience for me crossing the street that they do waiting for a parking spot 10 feet closer to the mall entrance.

Stack of books: COMICS AND MODERNISM anthology, a Jules Verne collection, a maps for 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, DC Comics Hawkman collection, JLA/JSA Crisis on Multiple Earths Vol. 3 (😉 to the Peacemaker fans), and X-Men The Brood Saga
Current reading stack—not sure if I’ve read the Brood Saga, reread of a certain JLA/JSA Crisis storyline (iykyk), the Comics and Modernism anthology is interesting, Jules Verne because of the GODZILLA MONSTERPIECE THEATER appearance and thought the 20,000 Leagues map would help!

Captain Scarlet and and Captain blue look after a fallen angel
A seething number 6 gets escorted back to the village by a giant white ball
58 years ago today, both Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and The Prisoner premiered on UK tv. That’s an awful lot of childhood nightmare fodder for one night of television.

Harry Belafonte came to the Village from Harlem after the war. His mother, Millie, of mixed-race heritage, had come from Jamaica to Har lem's West Indian section during Prohibition. She joined a sister who was already there and running a successful numbers operation with a white partner, a Tammany Irishman. His father, Harold Bellanfanti, also a mixed-race Jamaican, was a cook on United Fruit Company banana boats. Millie did domestic day labor. Harold Jr. was born in 1927. His childhood was divided between Harlem-where for a while the light-skinned boy hid his black heritage from the white kids around him, going by the nickname Frenchie-and long stays with his mother's family in Jamaica. He fell in love with theater and got a few acting parts with the American Negro Theatre, where he became lifelong friends with another young actor, Sidney Poitier. Following a stint in the military he used the GI Bill to study acting under Piscator at the New School. On his first day, the only dark face in his class, he introduced himself to the other young nobodies: Marlon Brando, Rod Steiger, Walter Matthau, Elaine Stritch, Wally Cox, Bea Arthur, and Bernie Schwartz, aka Tony Curtis. Brando was, not surprisingly, the coolest guy in class, but right behind him was his roommate Cox, whose entire career would be spent playing nerds and…(end of page but he played Mr. Peepers and voiced Underdog!)
Most of my time travel scenarios involve going to see bands…but maybe I could sneak in and be a fly on the wall of this acting class?

It was, I felt like I walked into the middle of a Santo movie lol. Bomboras threw the Milwaukee crowd a bone too by doing a very slapdash but fun cover of The Crusher.
Middle band on the bill was the Amazing (Royal) Crowns who were super hot too.

Saw them open for The Cramps. It was in an old rundown movie palace, we were slightly late so we could hear the band’s organ as we walked in the lobby, really set a creepy mood. Finally get into the theater to see the band in sombreros and skeleton costumes under black light. Amazing.

In the Stardust story I just read, American democracy is almost destroyed by 5th columnist traitors from within. Stardust turns them all into rats & drowns them, except for the leader, which he turns into the "human rat" you see here, and, damn, paint him orange and give him shitty hair, and- 🤷♂️
