Anyone who thinks college professors are in some kind of mind meld with each other where they all agree and indoctrinate their students with that unified message...has clearly never been in a faculty meeting.

So basically I empathize

I got close to meltdown recently bc I was reviewing a paper that had a ton of issues. I was so mad that such basic stuff was wrong, and yet when I submit I get nasty reviewer comments/demands/etc on my papers that are far more thought out. & then I still felt bad for writing such a negative review.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
