Just make two of them per player and they can pop them behind their glasses, hey presto, stereoscopic maps!

Isn't it easier to just partake in some waterboarding rather than this diary based torture?

Ooh, Christmas nostalgia vibes.

As a young kid, this annual was a regular Christmas present under the tree, as I grew up this morphed into Blue Peter annuals before Doctor Who/The Daleks got a look in.

The Final Girl #ttrpg & one ball juggler, Alphonse almost made it to the end, before a reindeer crashed through the windscreen, the bus crashed off the road & he ended up impaled on the steering wheel.

A great face to face game at The Arcanist's Tavern in London. Thanks Robert & the other players!

A year ago I started an experimental monthly event of story games on Raspy Raven discord (thanks to @jwmuk.bsky.social) and now a year later, we play 2 story games each month - we tried 16 of them. So much fun in all different genres was had! Can't wait what the 2026 will bring πŸ™‚

The fun has been myself & (EU/UK) players learning 80s/90s/00s US; horror, culture & history.

We heavily used Duck Tales πŸ¦†, Jean Claude Van Damme & Horse Girls (girls who like horses - seemed very contentious)!

And I loved our Goth PC's band - Mystic Spiral into the Death Wing of Oblivion.

And is the 2e of Public Access out yet? I was wondering what had changed, as it's a pretty tight and streamlined system?

Will check it out, thanks. My original post should add we had an excellent time and planning to try more of these systems, possibly The Between next.

As folk mention @scarredforlife.bsky.social @scarfolk.bsky.social could provide an alt setting for Public Access aka The Unscheduled Service.

Try Projector's Contempt, short sharp post punk scream, messy and chaotic.

Everything Alive by Slowdive, a warm shimmering dream, deep bass, emotional and hypnotic.

Heavy Heavy by Young Father is uplifting inspiring - gospel vocal, pounding drums and pop hooks.

True, as we get further away from the TV of my childhood (70s/80s also) it feels like a different world and full of the oddest of and most disturbing of telly.

Ran Public Access, The House on Escondido Street. A Carved from Brindlewood style mystery, soaked in nostalgia for the 80s/90s with creepypasta vibe.

Interesting emergent mystery rules, interspersed between watching VHS tapes from a defunct Public Access channel.

Could there be a British version?

Black-and-white illustrated scene of two people meeting in a park. A woman in a stylish suit with braided hair stands on the left, looking sceptically at a man on the right as she hands him a document in a plain envelope. Behind them, blurred figures walk among bare trees and concrete steps. Text overlays the bottom half of the image: β€œTHE AGENCY: SELF-CHECKOUT” in bold, with β€œComing Soon” handwritten in red beneath.

Side-by-side with my work on the Monad Edition, The Kraken's call means that a certain Self-Checkout will be seeing playtesting and write-up.

One of the playtest groups credited in For A Rainy Day will get to face unexpected developments in Episode 2.

When my brother gave up RPGs in the 90s he bequeathed to me the Sky Raiders trilogy and The Traveller Book. I did look into running one of them, in condensed form, as part of a previous Grogmeet. One day.

Books are condensed collections of knowledge. Knowledge is power. Power corrupts.
As any physicist will tell you, power is a function of energy, and energy and mass are interchangeable. Put enough books in one place and it distorts the world around it into strange shapes. Eventually, it forms a wormhole, linking the library to other libraries. The space between is a pocket realm, budded off from reality, maintained by the sheer power of books.
Somewhere in any big enough and old enough library, there will be an unmarked door. It is invariably locked, and probably hidden, perhaps behind a shelf against the wall, beneath wallpaper, in rooms the public are barred from entering, or under a painting or sign. Find it, unlock it, and on the other side the shelves continue.
Scholars have known about thisβ€”or at least had their suspicionsβ€”for centuries. They know that if you spend too much time in the Stygian Library, you don’t come out.

The Stygian Library is a point-crawl adventure set in an infinite extraplanar library. Each expedition randomly generates a new route as it explores, resulting in different vistas being unlocked with every visit.

The 160 page adventure location is a perfect toolkit for generating a zero prep session or campaign for fantasy adventurers, no matter the system or the sub-genre. Every room is stacked full of mystery, charm and baroque gloom, so that even the procedurally generated adventure is novel and tightly themed.

The Stygian Library is statted generically for Old School systems, allowing it to be easily converted into any fantasy adventuring system.

The Stygian Library is a partnership between SoulMuppet Publishing and Dying Stylishly Games.

The Stygian Library.

I've got into Depth Crawls and procedurally generated or improvised dungeons/scenarios this year and I think this is supposed to be one of the first and best.

Also it looks nice.

[2/2] This is online too, things would be different face-to-face.

I also upped my campaigns to 6 players, to try and overcome cancellations, it worked, but then we struggled with too many folk.

I've since cut down to 5, which is working better, but my preference for online is still 3-4 players.

02.12.2025 05:05 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

[1/2] Assume a campaign, then we'll run if there are 3 out of the 5 available - this gets established in session zero.

Likely missing players need a lie down/have to see a man about a dog/etc

I tend to lower the threat if there is combat.

We keep a calendar, so mostly, we know if a game won't run
