19.05.2025 20:06 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Discovering optimal articulations of deforming shapes for locomotion can help understand the different strategies organisms have developed to move around in the natural world. Joint work with Quentin Becker and Oliver Gross to be presented at ACM SIGGRAPH this summer.

Our computational framework for Inverse Geometric Locomotion finds suitable deformations of an elastic disk so that it swims forward in a dissipative medium. By modulating stiffness, we can recover the styles of locomotion observed, from example, in stingrays.
16.05.2025 17:14 β π 13 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Inverse Geometric Locomotion allows discovering optimal articulations for robots in dissipative media. The 4-triangle robot "learns" how to flap its wings to move forward or to rotate. The snake-like robot automatically adapts its articulation when a joint is broken.

Here is something new: Inverse Geometric Locomotion is our latest paper to be published at ACM SIGGRAPH. Led by Quentin Becker and Oliver Gross, this project studies how we can find deformations of a shape such that these body changes lead to a desired motion. Fun stuff!
