Description of seminar 32 (Race and Anglo-Iberian Literary Exchanges). While Anglo-Iberian studies has uncovered Shakespeare and his peers’ rich connections to Iberia, the scholarship’s racial stakes remain underexplored. This seminar engages with England’s literary relations with Spain and Portugal via Premodern Critical Race Studies. Papers may address contexts in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, the Middle East through transoceanic networks, religious conflicts, indigeneity, colonial exchanges, enslavement, racial polemics, gender, disability, and ecopoetics.
